The Process

Thoughts on composition, gear, and travel.

Photography is often described as painting with light, but I prefer to think of it as organizing chaos. When I walk down a busy street, I am not looking for a pretty picture; I am looking for geometry.

"The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera." — Dorothea Lange

Why I switched to Manual Focus

In a world of eye-detect autofocus, slowing down seems counterintuitive. However, using the Leica rangefinder forced me to anticipate the moment rather than react to it. It changed the angular precision of my work.

  • It forces intention over spray-and-pray.
  • Zone focusing makes you faster in street environments.
  • The tactile experience connects you to the machinery.
